Datca, Mugla - Downtown
The first settlement known in the Datça peninsula starts with the people of Karia about 4000 years ago. It was used as a living space by the Mycenans, Dorians, Persians, Alexander the Great, Rhodesians, Romans, Byzantines and finally the Ottomans for centuries. Today's Datça was named Reşadiye by the Ottomans in 1909. Reşadiye has turned into a neighborhood of Datça district today. New historical artifacts and valuable finds are brought to light every day in the ongoing excavations in the Knidos, Burgas and Sarı harbor areas around Datça district.
The work and information obtained as a result of ongoing excavations proves that the most important civilizations of history prevailed in the Anatolian lands. Knidos has been one of the most important haunts and shelters of seafarers throughout its history. Being one of the important sea routes of Knidos and its surroundings, it is also home to many wrecks that have sunk in history. The Knidos lighthouse in the Datça peninsula is theoretically accepted as the point where the Aegean and the Mediterranean meet.
