Girdev Plateau and Lake, Seydikemer - Historical Places
Girdev Lake, the only lake of Seydikemer, ranks first in the list of important bird areas in the world. There are 128 species of birds that can be detected in the lake basin. Located at an altitude of 1800 meters, the Girdev Plateau hosts many foreign bird watchers every year.
Girdev has become an important center of astronomical observation in recent years. Because of the high altitude of the plateau, sky observers have the opportunity to observe asteroid and meteor passages, milky way and newborn stars more closely on cloudless summer nights.
Nomadic life continues in the plateau, which is extremely rich in plant diversity. Girdev cheese and butter made from the milk of goats and sheep grazing in the mountains and plains of Girdev are famous.
It is said that the settlers in the Xanthos Valley migrated to Girdev in the summer months during the Lycian period. This rumor confirms the ancient stone blocks to the north and west of the lake. Some of the blocks were decorated with lion sarcophagi. There are ruins of ruined houses and walls at several points of the region.
Girdev Plateau with its high hills up to 400 meters above the lake level is suitable for paragliding, trekking, hiking, camping, sporting fishing and pleasant outdoor sports.
