Kayakoy, Fethiye - Downtown
Kayaköy is a well-known neighborhood in the Fethiye district of Muğla.
Kayaköy from each other consists of two very different residential areas. The first of these; Although it is a relatively recent settlement based on slopes and established in the early 19th century, it is an important place in tourism. Although the houses were in ruins with the 1957 Fethiye Earthquake, it attracts the attention of tourists with its lively museum quality. The other one is Kayı Village, which was recorded in the Ottoman book of records since 1512. There are records regarding the settlement of the Turkmen belonging to the Kayı tribe of the Oghuzes in the region, especially in the book numbered 39. Among the places to visit in Kayaköy are the big and small churches and fourteen chapels. There is also a pottery workshop (pottery) next to the small church. The small church path can be reached in about 40 minutes to the Cold Water bay, which is only accessible by sea or on foot. In 1923, the Greeks living in Levissi emigrated to Greece and the refugees from Thessaloniki and the surrounding area settled in Kayaköy. Discussions on the more touristic evaluation of Eski Kayaköy continue.
