Letoon Ancient City - Historical Places
It is estimated that the ancient city of Letoon in the Kumluova neighborhood of Seydikemer was founded in the seventh century BC. Letoon is the religious center of Lycia in ancient times. The temples of Leto, Apollon and Artemis in this sanctuary are very important historically.
The largest temple dedicated to Leto, the mother of Artemis and Apollo, is the Leto Temple built in the Peripteros style in the west. Around this temple, an inscription that was thought to belong to the 4th century BC and was written in three languages (Greek, Aramaic and Likçe) was found and is still exhibited in Fethiye Museum. The Temple of Apollo, built in the Doric style in the east, is less protected than the Temple of Leto. The Temple of Artemis, located in the middle of both temples, is the smallest. To the southwest of these three temples is a fountain (water spring) and to the east is a church. Inside the ancient city of Letoon, there is a large ancient theater with its back to the slope of a hill.
The ancient city, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List with the number 484 dated 09.12.1988, is on the Lycian walking route. Hundreds of tourists come to explore this area every day from the surrounding tourism centers such as Kaş, Fethiye, Kalkan and Patara.
